Pectus carinatum Wann ist der optimale Zeitpunkt für den Start der Pelottentherapie - ein Literaturreview
 Introduction:

Pectus carinatum is a rare malformation of the chest that is associated with a macroscopically recognizable protrusion of the sternum. However, the exact cause is still unknown. The visual appearance of pectus carinatum often leads to psychological distress and low self-confidence in affected patients. In addition to surgical correction, the treatment of choice is conservative treatment with a dynamic compression bracing system. The recommended age for starting the dynamic compression bracing treatment is not clearly defined in the literature. The aim of this diploma thesis is to compare data and recommendations from studies through a literature review in order to determine the optimal time of start of treatment.

Methods:

The Pubmed database was searched for suitable studies using a mesh search. These were checked according to the PICO scheme (patient, population, intervention, comparison, outcome). After removing duplicates, 14 studies remained for further analysis. Parameters such as gender, symmetry, age, PIC (pressure for initial correction), treatment duration, wearing time and results were evaluated and compared in tabular form where possible. In accordance with the research question, the main focus was on the optimal age for starting pad therapy.

Results:

There is no generally valid consensus on the age at which pad therapy should be started; an age recommendation was made in 6 of 14 studies. The range of recommended ages is 15 years. In order to be able to form a common statement, the start of therapy was defined as under 14 years of age. This recommendation is consistent with 5 of 14 studies. More randomized controlled trials are needed to better clarify this topic.
